Help us celebrate the 50th Birthday of the Renaissance Pleasure Faire in Marin ~ at the Marin County Fair this Summer!

(from Kevin & Leslie Patterson)

It was 1967, the "Summer of love", and in a oak and bay forest near what is now China Camp State Park, a Renaissance in creative expression was about arrive.  Join us in celebrating the early years of the "Pleasure Faire" as part of this year's Marin County Fair, "let the fun shine in" Summer of Love theme.  The counter culture origins of the Faire endured court battles with conservatives in Southern California yet enjoyed an exceedingly warm welcome in Marin when it arrived during that magical Summer 50 yeas ago!

Our exhibit will artfully present the crafts, posters, costumes, and articles from these early years along with children's theatre, minstrels, Punch & Judy, and amazing photos and videos.

Red Barn Productions has created this exhibit as the first project of the Patterson family event archives. Presented in the Frank Lloyd Wright exhibit halls, this 1,500 square foot museum style exhibit is included with admission to the Marin County Fair.

Dates and location:
June 30 - July 4
Marin Civic Center, San Rafael, CA

Proposals for New 2017 Shows & Groups Due May 31st

A quick reminder that proposals for new shows are due to me by May 31st. We're already working on the stage schedule, and I will be doing some business traveling in June, so I need your ideas as soon as possible.

We are especially looking for a stage show to take the place of Shelby Bond's "The Perniculous Adventures of Jim Chiminey" this year, as Shelby has been accepted for a one year program to get his MA at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in (the other) London! Congratulations Shelby!

Please keep the following in mind if you are proposing a show:

No fire performances
No prerecorded music/audio, video/animation
Costumes, language, sets and props must be appropriate for mid-19th century London (not Renaissance)
No modern performance styles (no aerial silks, etc.) or obvious modern (vs. Victorian) technology
Able to fit on available stage sizes
Please consult all of the information on the performer's web page before proposing a show. Thanks.

Trial By Jury at the V&A!

We are happy to announce that this year the Dickens Fair will debut its all-new production of Gilbert & Sullivan's first masterpiece, Trial By Jury, in the Victoria & Albert Music Hall.

We have a great cast, including Arie Singer, David Springhorn, and Daniel Galpin, and are looking for more performers, particularly a sonorous bass-baritone to play the Usher.  Auditions will be arranged soon.

Those interested in performing in Trial By Jury, please contact Barry Koron at

Sal's Dockside Music Hall - Audition Notice for Thursday, June 15th

(from Ed Pizzini)

You! Yes, you! With the squinty left eye and the knock knees. Have you ever dreamed of life on the rickety stage? The glamour and paste of fame? Well this may be your one and only opportunity to reach for the slums! Like a bad ha'penny, Sal's Dockside Music Hall arises again to open its doors come November with an entirely new (and yet strangely familiar) show.

Sal’s Dockside Music Hall will be holding open auditions for both cast members and a Chairman in the San Francisco area on the evening of Thursday June 15th.  Auditions will be held in the San Francisco area, you will receive the audition location along with your appointment time.

We are looking for men and women to fill openings in the Music Hall. Prospective cast members should be able to sing and act and be comfortable with both light choreography and occasional (or not so occasional) improv on stage. Members of previous music hall incarnations are highly encouraged to audition!

We are also looking to cast the ever-so-prestigious role of The Chairman. Additional responsibilities of The Chairman include (but are not limited to) connecting with the audience, introducing the performers before their songs, bantering with Sal, and promote general hilarity.

If you would like to audition for this show, please email us at (with MUSIC HALL AUDITIONS in the subject line).
We will respond to your email with an audition time slot and the location. Please show up to the audition a bit early with a song ready to sing (along with its sheet music if you'd like to be accompanied) and wear something you can easily move in. Please also be prepared for a cold read and to learn a short piece of music.

Any questions? Email the director at or message Edward Pizzini on Facebook.

Looking for WordPress Help with

(from Kevin Patterson)

We are looking for someone with significant knowledge and experience developing websites using WordPress.

We are excited about evolving our Renaissance Faire archive site "" to the next level and could use some technical assistance. We have been caring for and organizing the thousands of photos, videos, posters, ephemera, and art collected by Ron & Phyllis Patterson for many years.

Our plan is to share it with our community - our Faire family - via, exhibits like the Marin County Fair announced in this missive, and other projects. If you have technical abilities with Wordpress, and are willing to volunteer (at least to begin with) we could use your help.

Please contact me via Thank you! ~Kevin
